Why Are These Kids All Defaulting?

Oh my goodness, do you know how much student loans default there is right now? I know a lot of people in their twenties and most of them are having a really tough time trying to pay off their student debt. Some of my friends in their thirties are still dealing with it too!

At first I got really upset with a lot of my friends. I have been around for a while and in my day you work hard and you pay off what you owe. A lot of these kids would not go to work, or they worked odd jobs like being a water or a bartender. That is great if you have no responsibilities in the world but it is not the kind of responsible career I would expect of them after getting a degree. I mean think of the sacrifices their parents made to help them get that degree, they should be out working!

However I did not know how far the unemployment problem has spread. I talked to some of these kids and listened to what they had to say and they are not working these odd jobs as some kind of joyride. Most of them would love to be out there at a desk doing something that matters and earning their keep. However, no one is hiring – imagine how that must break your heart, to spend all that money and do all that work only to be told your degree is worthless?

Well, I guess these kids have a tough road in front of them, I hope they don’t all default!
